a closer look

with Elizabeth An'Marie new Winter Spring 17/18 Christmas Addition Collection

14th Dec 2017

There’s something incredibly magical about The Nutcracker. Whether it’s your first or fiftieth time seeing it, nothing puts you in the holiday mood faster than the flutter of the Sugar Plum Fairy’s tulle tutu or a pirouette from the icy Snow Queen. Dancing rats, leaping lambs, sparkle dusted costumes and larger-than-life sets have kept audiences coming back for more. Elizabeth An’Marie has made a mini collection just in time for Christmas, inspired by The Nutcracker, but only if he has a wife. Mrs Nutcracker!

Take a look at what goes on behind the scenes of making a collection, from the sketching, materials, and knitting the garments to taking the finally photos .

First before any knitting takes place, I always head straight to pinterest, create a new design board, and find ideas or designs based on my current collection. Above are some images I found on Pinterest.

Sketching out designs are the fun part. When your done creating your mood and finding ideas to help you with your own personal sketches, your so close to your garment becoming an reality. From past collections I've seen that not all of our knitted garments come out the way our sketches were designed for them to be. But thats the beauty of it. Not everything will be perfecto or correct. But always remember to love what you do and carry on, however it comes out.

"It’s all about the woman, strong, the boss with an urban lifestyle..."

We only us the finest wool out there, 100% Merino yarn. Knitting our garments with this blend of yarns will leave you skin feeling soft, warm and cozy.

We used gold buttons, rose patches and gold cored to design the front of our jumpers. We wanted the look of an army/ nutcracker jacket and I believe the finally outcome was great.

The image above shows our Mia one sleeve jumper dress being made on our knitting machine. Using a knitting machine is a big help to the business. When knitting a garment via the machine, we can knit up a jumper garments in two days instead of knitting with needles for two weeks. Don't forget we're still the workers of this machine, without our hands, the machine will work. We are the movers of the machines and we are the knitters of the machine.

I had so much fun designing and knitting up this collection. Now looking back at when I first got the idea to do this collection; from adding images to my pinterest board and then sketching out some designs, I'm happy to say by far this is one of my favourite collection made by Elizabeth An'Marie.

This was a fun photo!!

A short clip of me working on the machine. {P.s. Don't mind what I'm wearing it was a cold day}
